Summary:

The main character, Hanna Slivka is almost 14 when Hitler’s army crosses into Soviet-occupied Ukraine. The story begins before the Germans have invaded her home town but not before the hatred for her heritage is felt first. As the German army continue to take over and people start to turn on each other in desperate hope for food and safety, Hanna and her friends and family must run before they are caught. They make way to the forest on the outskirts of their town and hide in the caves that are said to be haunted by evil spirits. But one day, Hanna’s father vanishes and it’s up to her to find him and find a way to keep her loved ones safe and alive.
The moving tale, My Real Name is Hannah, is told from the perspective of an older Hanna Slivka who is telling her daughter her experience and journey to freedom. This book celebrates the power of family, the beauty of a helping hand and the strength of the human spirit.
